We talked about our neighborhood and how happy it makes us that there are so many dogs in the area. We went on and on about how much rescue means to us and how obsessed we are with our own pups, her Ozzy and Dolly Parton, and my Logan. It was easy to talk to Amy Turner, digital illustrator most known for her custom dog portraits and recent venture into pop art. She has a cool vibe about her and so does her art.
Amy Turner is not a classically trained artist. She is a creative entrepreneur that turned her obsession with her dog encyclopedia – which she proudly memorized – and love of art into a business.
Inspired by her artist father, Amy started painting and working with other mediums as a young girl living in Los Angeles, CA. Around 15 years ago, Amy started exploring digital illustration. She understood the basic technology and liked the idea of having a new canvas to play around with. Her philosophy is ‘try everything and edit later.”
Well, it’s working. She has turned her hobby into a full-fledged business. Most of her work is in dog portraits, which is obviously most rewarding for her. “Something about capturing the essence of someone’s dog and putting it into art is so rewarding,” says Turner. “It’s like bringing the joy of your dog full circle.”
Coming up next for Amy is a line of sneakers and swim shorts featuring some of her more recent pop art design.
